Seymour High School freshman Maria Mateo-Pascual works on reading a book with peer mentors, including freshman Aidan Hiester, Tuesday. Mateo-Pascual was born in Guatemala with profound hearing loss and wasn't allowed to attend school. After coming to Seymour in 2016 with her mother, she enrolled in SHS in the fall and received a hearing aid from the Jackson County Hearing Aid Fund for School-Age Children in January.
